New York schools have to use IPM and notify parents of pesticide applications. Here's how compliance actually works.
What the law requires
48-hour prior written notice to parents, staff, and neighbors for any pesticide application at a school or day care. Exemptions exist for baits in tamper-resistant devices and certain gel baits.
What IPM looks like in schools
Inspection, sanitation, exclusion, and monitoring first. Chemical applications only after IPM steps have been exhausted and always in the safest formulation available.
