Carpenter ants, wasps, ticks, and mosquitoes all wake up together in the Hudson Valley. Here's how to be ready.

When spring pests wake up here

Carpenter ant swarmers appear in April. Paper wasp queens scout for nesting sites the first warm week. Tick nymphs are active by early May. Mosquitoes hatch from any standing water above 50°F.

The 30-minute yard walk

Check eaves and soffits for early wasp queens. Empty every water-holding container. Clear leaf litter from foundation borders. Photograph any carpenter ant activity and send it to us for ID.

When to schedule your first exterior treatment

Late April. Getting ahead of the first wasp queens and ant swarmers is 10x easier than chasing an established nest in July.
